Timely arrival: Sharing Ministries receives large food donation from LDS Church, as need climbs

Local food bank operators can attest: Hunger hits home.

Volunteers help organize the 40,000 pounds of food the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brought to Sharing Ministries on August 20th, part of a collaborative effort between the church and America250 to bring food to 250 communities in honor of the nation’s 250th year. The food arrived in a JustServe/America250-branded semi.

Sharing Ministries Food Bank, serving multiple nonprofits and individuals in Montrose and surrounding counties, saw an 89% increase in visits over the last five years. Visits from those experiencing homelessness increased by 200% in the last five years, and the number of clients with no household income has also soared, Sharing Ministries Executive Director Oneda Doyal said.
